Asian-inspired products, especially Thai,
Vietnamese, and Korean
flavors, are becoming
quite popular throughout the perimeter of
grocery stores. Asian
dishes carry a health
halo amongst millennial
shoppers, who tend
to be very mindful of
health and wellness
options. Noodle-based
meals such as pho,
ramen, and miso
offer authentic taste
experiences.

International flavors are
hot right now. We are
seeing a rising interest
in Asian-inspired flavors
that pair well with our
fresh meats, seafood
and vegetables. The
Fresh Market recently brought in some
amazing shoyus which
are basically flavor-elevated, more complex,
aged soy sauces. We
have a Whiskey Barrel
Aged Shoyu that is
incredible brushed over
a grilled steak.

With the continued
growth of big, bold
flavors, the fresh perimeter will continue
to abound with more
flavorful chilies and
a greater variety of
fresh herbs and other
aromatics. The growth
of ethnic and regional
cuisines will bring new
produce items and
a renewed focus on
under-utilized cuts of
meats and offal.

We're seeing flavor
infusions and profiles
popular in other
categories being
applied to instore
bakery items. Nostalgiageared infusions like
funfetti and s'mores
are becoming more
popular, as well as the
sweet/heat profile.

Global flavors are continuing to grow in popularity. Consumers are
exploring new cuisines
and are becoming more
familiar with these flavor
profiles. We will see this
carrying over into the
meat case in marinades
of fresh meat and as an
ingredient in prepared
items. Consumers
still like heat but they
also want unique and
complex flavors with the
spice - we will see more
specific pepper varietals
called out on packages.
